Sermon Theme: As We Commemorate, Let Us Anticipate
Introduction
Grace, mercy, and peace…
Today we begin a new church calendar year as we enter the season of Advent. This is a time of expectancy—it is the four weeks leading up to Christmas.
Today’s gospel from Mark 13 turns our attention to the voice of the Son of man, not a voice reminding us of his birthday but a voice forewarning us of a greater preparation—His second coming.
While it is important that we celebrate his first coming, He wants us to be aware that we must also anticipate his second coming. As we commemorate, let us anticipate.
What this means is the preparation for his first coming is a commemorative preparation. But the preparation for his second coming is a preparation.
So here are some things to anticipate…
Looking upward
Looking afterward
Looking heavenward
So as we prepare for this all important commemoration called Christmas, let us do so with great anticipation of His second coming.
