The Transfiguration of Our Lord

February 11, 2018

Sermon text: Mark 9:2–9

Sermon theme: Having a Glimpse of His Glory

Introduction

Grace, mercy, and peace…

Today we celebrate the transfiguration of our Lord, when Jesus went up the mountain with Peter, James, and John and changed his appearance.

Preaching to you under the theme “Having a Glimpse of His Glory,” I would like to point out some blessings found in the account of our Lord’s transfiguration.

The place

He led them up a high mountain.

Mount Moriah
Mount Sinai
Mount Carmel
Mount Horeb
Mount Calvary
Mount Olives

God set aside a few mountaintop experiences for you and me; we don’t climb physically but we do spiritually. What this means is we have been seated higher than mountaintop levels in the spirit.

The people

Jesus selected these three for this special trip to the mountaintop. They became prominent in the early church because they drew closer to the Lord.

The presentation

As he was praying he was transfigured.
This was not the first time that Jesus became transfigured.
These men had their focus on other things that were more important to them, but after this experience; they kept their focus on Jesus. They kept their eyes on Jesus, because they knew that he is taking us to somewhere better.
