Introduction
Grace, mercy, and peace…
Our God is not some backstage creator who is not interested in making himself known to us. He is interested in our having an experiential knowledge of him—that’s called fellowship. Fellowship: association with someone who shares a common interest.
God establishes relationships with the sole purpose of creating fellowship. Relationship is a matter of birth; fellowship is a matter of choice. Fellowship is the area where we lack efficiency—because being in fellowship with God is where we come to enjoy God’s goodness.
How does God make himself known to us?
Personal revelation
Personal revelation is when Jesus personally reveals himself to us.
The call to Philip is a call to follow him… again the whole idea of fellowship. The word “follow” carries the idea of imitation/replication…
Awesome imitation
Philip followed Jesus so much that he became so wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up in Jesus.
Amazing conversion
A few things I would like us to see quickly in this amazing conversion:
Nathanael condemns Jesus because of Nazareth. Philip invites him.
Philip is connected to Jesus; Jesus takes over the situation.
Nathanael realized how naked he is before Jesus; he submits to his lordship…
