Third Sunday of Easter

April 30, 2017

Sermon text:  Luke 24:13–35

Sermon theme: On the road to Emmaus

Introduction

Two men, disciples/followers of Jesus, confused by all that had just happened, had left Jerusalem and were headed for home… Emmaus. These two men are going home because they don’t seem to understand.

The Encounter

As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them. When we are going though moments in our lives, God is closer than we can ever think or imagine…

The Burden Bearer

Jesus was concerned about what was on their minds and how this idea had shifted their understanding and diminished their faith. He is concerned about us too…

The Enlightening

Jesus took over the situation by replacing their own understanding with some spiritual understanding. Jesus walked with them all the way home. By the time they got home, they were so full of him that couldn’t let go of him… they asked him to spend the night.
